enwitec DC-Surge Protection Type II, 3 MPPT, 10014959
Why do you need surge protection?
Since December 14, 2018, the use of AC surge protectors has been mandatory in all newly planned buildings. When installing new PV systems, type 2 DC surge protection is required, unless a lightning protection system is required, in which case type 1+2 DC surge protection is mandatory. The decision for a type 1+2 combined surge arrester depends on the requirement or presence of a lightning protection system. In existing buildings with subsequent PV installation, only the PV system needs to be equipped with surge protectors, while the rest of the house remains unchanged. (Based on the requirements in Germany)
Surge protection makes sense in any case.
Regardless of whether lightning protection on the direct current side is legally required, it also makes sense in all cases to protect your PV system and the investment associated with it. Overvoltage damage caused by nearby thunderstorms, for example, can irreparably damage your inverter. Defects of this type are excluded in all manufacturer warranty conditions known to us and in the event of damage, this is also checked carefully. DC overvoltage protection can be implemented relatively easily using a generator connection box that is installed between the inverter and the module field.
