GoodWe ESA 12 kW All-in-One Hybrid Inverter GW12K-ETA-G20
Three-phase all-in-one energy storage system with 12 kW output power – integrated smart meter, whole-home backup, AI-powered energy management and up to 108 kWh storage capacity.
The GoodWe ESA 12 kW hybrid inverter (GW12K-ETA-G20 / NBG0012-04-00P) is the heart of the compact ESA system ("Energy Storage All-in-one"), combining hybrid inverter, energy management, integrated smart meter and backup power supply in a single device. Together with the GoodWe ESA battery modules (5.0 / 6.0 / 8.0 / 9.0 kWh), it forms a complete, pre-wired PV storage system for residential and small commercial applications – with minimal installation effort and maximum flexibility in storage configuration.
Important note: The inverter must not be commissioned without a compatible GoodWe ESA battery module. Standalone operation without a battery will void the manufacturer's warranty.
Features
- All-in-one system: Hybrid inverter, smart meter, backup port and energy management in one device – fewer components, faster installation.
- 200% DC oversizing: Supports double the PV input power (24 kWp at 12 kW AC) for maximum yields even with suboptimal orientation.
- Up to 1C charge/discharge rate: Fast energy exchange with appropriate battery sizing – ideal for peak shaving and e-mobility.
- Whole-home backup power: In off-grid mode up to 13.2 kVA from PV/battery; with grid available additionally up to 63A transfer current (approx. 43.5 kVA) via the integrated bypass function – no additional components required.
- Seamless switchover: Transition from grid-tied to off-grid mode in under 4 ms – uninterruptible for sensitive loads.
- Dual-port design: Separate backup port for critical loads and GRID port for normal grid operation – independently controllable.
- 4 MPP trackers: Optimum yield even with different orientations or partial shading of individual PV strings.
- AI-powered AFCI 3.0: Intelligent arc fault detection to protect against cable fires in the PV system.
- 6-level safety concept: From cell to system level – incl. residual current, insulation and string current monitoring as well as AC and DC surge protection type II.
- IP66 protection rating: Suitable for indoor and outdoor installation, active fan cooling for quiet operation.
- Heating mode: Reliable operation down to -35°C.
- Parallel operation: Up to 6 ESA systems can be connected in parallel – up to 576 kWh total storage capacity for larger commercial applications.
- §14a EnWG compliant: Supports grid-friendly control of controllable consumption devices.
- 10-year manufacturer's warranty: Performance guarantee of at least 70% usable capacity over the warranty period; extended warranty available via the GoodWe Plus+ programme with active SEMS+ connection.
Backup Power – Whole-Home Backup Without Additional Components
The GoodWe ESA features a dual-port design with two separate AC connections: the GRID port for normal grid operation and the BACKUP port for emergency power supply. In the event of a grid failure, the system detects the missing grid voltage and automatically switches to off-grid mode in under 4 ms – significantly faster than most UPS systems and uninterruptible for virtually all loads.
In true off-grid mode (grid failed), the inverter supplies the backup port from PV and battery with up to 13.2 kVA continuous power and up to 24.0 kVA briefly (10 s) for motor-start loads. While the grid is available, the integrated bypass function provides an additional direct pass-through path with up to 63A transfer current (approx. 43.5 kVA at 400V three-phase). If the actual household load permanently exceeds 63A, planning a separate backup circuit for critical loads is recommended.
For peak shaving in small commercial applications, the system detects impending load peaks and discharges the battery in a targeted manner to reduce demand charges with the grid operator. In combination with TOU mode (Time-of-Use), the battery can be charged from the grid during favourable tariff periods and used to supply loads during expensive peak times.
Integrated Smart Meter & Energy Management
Included in the scope of delivery is an integrated smart meter (3× 120A / 40mA, 10m cable length) that records grid consumption and feed-in in real time. For grid connections with fuses above 120A, an external smart meter is recommended – suitable options are available in our GoodWe accessories range.
The AI-powered energy management system of the SEMS+ platform analyses PV forecasts, consumption patterns and electricity tariffs and optimises the storage strategy fully automatically. The integrated intelligent communication stick transmits all generation data in real time to the SEMS+ remote monitoring platform. Communication interfaces: WiFi, LAN, Bluetooth, RS485 and optionally 4G.
Scalability & Expansion
The GoodWe ESA 12 kW starts with one GoodWe ESA battery module and can be expanded at any time to up to 6 modules per tower and a total of 3 towers (12 modules, 108 kWh). Each additional tower requires a GoodWe Battery Expansion Kit. For wall mounting of battery towers, the GoodWe Wall Mount Bracket for ESA Series is available. For larger commercial projects, up to 6 ESA systems can be operated in parallel – corresponding to a total storage capacity of up to 576 kWh.
