Huawei LUNA2000-5-E1 Battery Extension 5 kWh for LUNA2000-S1 Battery Storage
Individual expansion module for the Huawei LUNA2000 S1 – 5 kWh lithium iron phosphate, cable-free module connection, integrated heating function.
The Huawei LUNA2000-5-E1 is the 5 kWh battery module for the modular Huawei LUNA2000 S1 PV storage system, i.e. high-voltage battery storage system for photovoltaic installations. The module is based on the so-called Module+ architecture: its own integrated energy optimiser controls the charging and discharging process individually at cell level, achieving according to the manufacturer up to 40 % more usable energy as well as a full depth of discharge of 100 %. The cable-free connection between the modules enables quick and straightforward expansion of an existing LUNA2000 S1 system. Up to 3 modules can be installed per tower, freely combinable with the 6.9 kWh battery module LUNA2000-7-E1. The LUNA2000-5-E1 is exclusively compatible with Huawei SUN2000 inverters.
Features
- More usable energy: Module+ architecture with integrated energy optimiser – up to 40 % more usable energy, 100 % depth of discharge.
- Cable-free module connection: Quick expansion without extensive wiring between the modules.
- Integrated heating function: Operation from -20°C to +55°C – automatic heating in cold environments, consuming stored energy in the process.
- Low-noise operation: No loud fan required – noise emission below 29 dB.
- Five-level safety concept: Cell-level monitoring, electrical and structural protection, fire suppression within 15 seconds, IP66 underwater protection (40 cm, 72 hrs.) – not designed for permanent contact with water.
- Flexibly combinable: Up to 3 modules per tower in any combination with the 6.9 kWh battery module LUNA2000-7-E1 – maximum tower capacity 20.7 kWh.
Expansion and Scaling
A tower requires at least 1 module and can be expanded with up to 3 modules, in any combination of the LUNA2000-5-E1 and the LUNA2000-7-E1. In addition, up to 4 complete towers can be operated in parallel, depending on the inverter used – this maximum configuration with 4 towers is, according to the manufacturer, exclusively supported by the SUN2000-MB0 series and enables a total capacity of up to 82.8 kWh per inverter. According to Huawei support, towers in parallel operation may have different capacities. However, combining LUNA2000 S1 with the predecessor series S0 within one storage system is not permitted, neither individually nor in parallel operation – only when operating with two separate inverters can an S0 system be connected to one and an S1 system to the other.
Advantages over the Huawei LUNA2000 S0
Compared to the predecessor series LUNA2000 S0, Huawei has made several key improvements with the S1: the protection rating was raised from IP65 to IP66 – including underwater protection up to 40 cm water depth. The operating temperature range also expanded noticeably, from -10°C to +45°C with the S0 to -20°C to +55°C with the S1. The warranty period increases from 10 to 15 years (on 80 % of performance).
Optional Accessories
For backup power functionality, the Huawei SmartGuard (single-phase / three-phase) with integrated EMMA functionality is recommended for comprehensive energy management and backup supply. Without backup requirements, the Huawei EMMA is sufficient as a standalone HEMS module, for example to make optimal use of dynamic electricity tariffs and get the most out of the system. For those who prefer not to use the included floor stand, the LUNA2000-S1 can alternatively be space-savingly wall-mounted using the separately available wall mounting bracket for LUNA2000 S1.
