my-PV SOL•THOR – DC Power Manager 3.6 kW for Off-Grid Hot Water with Solar Power

my-PV SOL•THOR – DC Power Manager 3.6 kW for Off-Grid Hot Water with Solar Power

Steplessly controlled DC power manager directly from PV modules – off-grid, no inverter, no grid approval required

The my-PV SOL•THOR is a 0–3.6 kW steplessly controlled DC power manager for off-grid hot water preparation with solar power. It is connected directly to PV modules and converts DC current into heat with virtually no losses – no inverter, no grid approval and no grid feed-in. The SOL•THOR can be flexibly used with 1 to 10 PV modules – the exact number of modules depends on the electrical specifications of the modules used (voltage, current, output) and the desired heating power. To ensure hot water supply, the SOL•THOR can optionally heat automatically from the grid (max. 3.6 kW AC). Thanks to IP54 protection and a waterproof design, it is also suitable for outdoor installation.

PV power directly into heat – advantages over solar thermal systems

The SOL•THOR uses DC current from PV modules directly for off-grid heat generation – without routing through an inverter and without losses through pipework. Compared to solar thermal systems, it offers decisive advantages: only power cables instead of complex pipework, virtually no losses between PV generator and heat storage, no moving parts, no frost protection checks, no stagnation problems and higher PV module yield at low ambient temperatures. The SOL•THOR is compatible with conventional electric boilers and can easily be retrofitted into existing systems.

Use with balcony power stations and as an off-grid island solution

The SOL•THOR is the ideal off-grid complement to a balcony power station: alongside the balcony power station, additional PV modules can be connected directly to the SOL•THOR – without an inverter, without approval, PV power directly into hot water. According to my-PV, a 2-person household can cover up to 50% of its annual hot water demand off-grid with just 3 PV modules. In multi-unit residential buildings, the SOL•THOR is the ideal solution where grid-connected PV systems are too complex – each apartment can be supplied completely independently and off-grid with hot water. It is also ideal for rural or off-grid locations.

Stratified charging and system integration

The SOL•THOR can control two heating elements alternately – ideal for stratified charging with one heating element in the upper and one in the lower section of the tank. Thanks to LAN, WLAN and RS485, it is fully networked and supports the my-PV cloud features SPO (Solar Peak Optimizer) and DTO (Dynamic Tariff Optimizer). The SPO responds to negative exchange electricity prices and starts heat generation exactly when no EEG remuneration is paid. The DTO automatically optimises heat generation based on the cheapest exchange electricity prices from 22 European countries.

Manufacturer "my-PV GmbH"

Founded in 2011, the Austrian company my-PV develops innovative and functional solutions for solar-powered building technology. Driven by the deep conviction that everyone has a right to clean energy, the manufacturer demonstrates that ecology, low costs, and resource conservation are not mutually exclusive when it comes to self-consumption. At its headquarters in Neuzeug, the internationally active company built Austria's first solar-electric company building, which combines production, warehousing, R&D, and training areas across approximately 2,600 m². With this focus on expansion and progress, my-PV gets the absolute maximum out of photovoltaic systems – for both people and the environment.
