SMA Sunny Tripower Hybrid X 12 kW Hybrid Inverter STPH12-60
Three-phase hybrid inverter with intelligent energy management, integrated emergency power output, optional full backup solution and maximum system flexibility – powered by ennexOS.
The SMA Sunny Tripower Hybrid X 12 (STPH12-60) is the three-phase hybrid inverter for future-proof photovoltaic systems in the home. As part of the SMA Sunny Tripower Hybrid X family, it combines intelligent cloud-based energy management, flexible battery storage integration and maximum installation flexibility. With 3 independent MPP trackers and a low start voltage of just 90 V, it is optimally suited for complex roof installations with different orientations or short strings. The integrated SMA ShadeFix algorithm continuously optimises yield in partial shading – without external optimisers. The integrated SMA ArcFix arc fault protection detects arc faults at an early stage, reliably protecting the entire system from fire hazards. An integrated single-phase SPS emergency power output (3680 W / 16 A) is available directly on the device – for supplying individual loads in the event of a grid failure, without any external components. For full three-phase emergency power supply for the entire home, an additional SMA Backup Box or SMA Backup Kit is required. In combination with the SMA Storage M battery storage system, up to 36.9 kWh of storage capacity can be integrated. In combination with the SMA eCharger, electric vehicles can be charged directly with surplus PV energy.
What distinguishes the Sunny Tripower Hybrid X from the Sunny Tripower Smart Energy?
The Sunny Tripower Hybrid X is the new generation and introduces significant improvements: it features 3 independent MPP trackers instead of 2 in the Smart Energy – offering considerably more flexibility for complex roof structures. The start voltage is significantly lower at 90 V – ideal for short strings or unfavourable wiring configurations. The Hybrid X is compatible with the new SMA Storage M battery storage system offering up to 36.9 kWh capacity – compared to a maximum of 16.4 kWh with the Home Storage of the Smart Energy. There is an important difference regarding backup: the Smart Energy had a single-phase backup output directly integrated – the three-phase off-grid mode was only available from 10 kW for the system manager. The Hybrid X also features an integrated single-phase SPS emergency power output for individual loads – for full three-phase emergency power supply for the entire home with 63 A, an external SMA Backup Box or SMA Backup Kit is required. In addition, the Hybrid X allows parallel operation of up to 5 inverters – ideal for larger systems and multi-family buildings.
SMA Premium or Sunny Home Manager 2.0 – which energy management solution suits my system?
As soon as a battery storage system, self-consumption optimisation, feed-in limitation or the use of dynamic electricity tariffs is required, a meter at the grid connection point is necessary. Two fundamentally different system approaches are available:
With an SMA Energy Meter, two energy management levels are available – both are directly integrated into all ennexOS-based SMA devices and require no additional hardware. The free SMA Energy Planner enables manual, time-controlled energy management: it provides the basic functions and allows individual configuration of energy flows, peak load and consumption profiles, as well as basic visualisation in the Sunny Portal. Those wanting fully automatic optimisation can activate the paid SMA Energy Maximizer via SMA Premium: it operates fully autonomously and optimises energy flows based on PV generation and tariff forecasts, consumption patterns and system sensors – including predictive load shifting, avoidance of curtailment losses and suppression of feed-in during negative remuneration. Energy Planner and Energy Maximizer cannot be operated simultaneously – however, a manual switch between the two is possible at any time. Detailed functional differences can be found in the SMA documentation. Please note: if a Sunny Home Manager 2.0 is used in the system, it must not be configured as the master device.
The Sunny Home Manager 2.0 (HM-20) is a proven and comprehensive combination device featuring an integrated meter and energy management system, and can also be used with the Sunny Tripower Hybrid X. It offers a wide range of functions for self-consumption optimisation, load management, control of heat pumps (SG-Ready/EEBUS) and compatible wallboxes. Certain functions of the SMA Energy Maximizer – such as fully automatic forecast-based optimisation – are not available with the Sunny Home Manager 2.0. Detailed functional differences can be found in the SMA documentation. Information on compatibilities and available functions may change due to software updates – please check the latest information with the manufacturer. Compatible accessories for both variants can be found in our SMA accessories category.
